Questions and answers

Indoor air quality and health

Will air duct cleaning help my allergies?

Not by itself. EPA states duct cleaning has never been shown to prevent health problems. What helps most, according to allergist guidance, is a combined plan: source control, humidity at 35–50%, high-efficiency filtration (MERV 11–13 whole-home, HEPA in bedrooms) and a clean coil and drain. Duct cleaning is warranted when there is visible mold, pests or excessive debris, and we’ll show you photos either way.

What filter should I use?

EPA recommends at least MERV 13, or the highest rating your system can accommodate. Most systems handle MERV 13 if it’s changed on schedule. Because a denser filter can restrict airflow, we check your system before recommending one and set a change schedule for your home: often every 1–3 months for a 1-inch filter.

Are UV lights worth it?

For the coil, often yes in Dallas. ASHRAE research shows UV-C keeps wet cooling coils free of biofilm, which helps airflow and heat transfer, and the benefit is greatest in hot, humid climates. The coil should be cleaned first, the lamp must be ozone-free, and UV complements filtration rather than replacing it.

What humidity should my home be?

Between 35% and 50% relative humidity, per allergist guidance for dust mites; EPA ties mold control directly to moisture control. An inexpensive hygrometer will tell you where you are. Persistent readings above 50% in summer usually point to an AC, drainage or airflow problem worth checking.

Are ozone air purifiers safe?

EPA advises against ozone generators sold as air cleaners. Ozone is a lung irritant at concentrations these devices can produce. Choose filtration, ventilation and ozone-free UV instead.

How does DFW’s outdoor air affect my home?

The 10-county DFW area is a severe nonattainment area for the 2008 ozone standard, and pollen seasons run nearly year-round. Outdoor air enters through leaks, doors and ventilation, which is why sealing, filtration and well-timed maintenance matter here.

Booking, pricing and visits

What areas do you serve?

Dallas–Fort Worth, including Dallas, Plano, Frisco, McKinney, Allen, Richardson, Garland, Irving, Carrollton, Little Elm, Prosper and Fort Worth. Type your ZIP on the booking page to see the days we’re near you.

Is the in-home visit really free?

Yes. It takes 45 minutes to an hour. We inspect, explain what we find and give you a written price for the whole job. No pressure to decide that day.

How do route-day savings work?

We keep each day tight: once we have a visit in your area, we offer the times right before or after it. When a day this week still has room, booking next to our visit saves 10% off the job booked from that visit. A time that fills a gap between two of our visits saves 15%. Days further out are offered at the regular price. The savings are shown on each day before you book.

Can I get in line for a route day?

Yes. If you’re flexible on the day, leave your address and the days that work on the booking page. When our route comes near you, we text or email you a time you can confirm in one click, with the route-day savings. No commitment.

I’m a returning customer. Do I get a discount?

Yes. Returning customers get 15% off their next service. Choose “I’ve used Clean Air Experts before” on the booking page. Route-day savings and the returning-customer discount don’t stack; you get whichever is higher.

Are you insured?

Yes. General liability coverage of $1 million per occurrence and $2 million aggregate. Ask and we’ll send the certificate, and we can name your HOA or property manager on it.

When do I pay?

The written estimate is agreed before work starts. The invoice is due when the job is complete.

¿Hablan español?

Sí. We explain everything in plain English or Spanish.

Who comes to my home?

A Clean Air Experts technician in our teal van, who puts on shoe covers before stepping inside and walks you through every step. Often it’s Itzik himself.

Air Duct Cleaning

How often should air ducts be cleaned?

There’s no fixed calendar. EPA doesn’t recommend duct cleaning as routine maintenance when nothing calls for it. Homes with pets, recent remodels, rodents or visible buildup need it more often. At the free visit we look inside and tell you honestly whether it can wait.

Why isn’t your price as low as the $99 ads?

NADCA warns homeowners about ultra-low “whole house” coupons that don’t cover the real job and tend to grow once a crew is inside. Our estimate covers the whole job for your home and is written down before we start, so you can compare real numbers.

Will duct cleaning help with allergies?

We don’t make health promises, and EPA cautions against companies that do. What we can show you is the dust, debris and dander we remove, in photos, before and after.

Do you use chemicals or sanitizers?

Only when there’s a reason and only with your OK. EPA advises against routine biocides; mechanical cleaning is the main job.

Do I need to be home?

Someone 18 or older needs to let us in and walk through at the end. Most families go about their day while we work.

Dryer Vent Cleaning

How often should a dryer vent be cleaned?

Once a year for most families. Large households, long runs and roof terminations usually need it more often.

Can you clean a roof-vented dryer?

Yes. We clear the run from inside and the roof cap from outside when it’s safe to access.

Should I replace the foil hose behind my dryer?

Plastic and thin foil transition hoses crush easily and trap lint. We’ll show you what you have and replace it with semi-rigid metal duct if you want.

HVAC Cleaning & Maintenance

How often should the evaporator coil be cleaned?

When inspection shows buildup, often every few years. Homes with pets, remodels or poor filtration need it sooner.

Why does my AC leak water?

Most often the condensate drain line is clogged with algae and sludge, so the pan overflows or the safety switch shuts the system off. Clearing the line usually fixes it.

Do you install mini-splits?

Yes. We install ductless mini-split systems and can help you decide whether one fits a room, garage or addition.

Attic Insulation

Do I need to remove the old insulation?

Not always. If it’s dry and clean, we can add on top. If it’s contaminated by rodents, wet, or packed down, removal is the right call, and we’ll show you why.

R-38 or R-49?

Both are common in North Texas. ENERGY STAR recommends R-49 for an uninsulated zone 3 attic. We’ll quote what your home needs and what your city’s code requires.

Can you provide paperwork for a home sale?

Yes. You get a detailed paid invoice listing what was removed and installed, including the R-value, which appraisers and buyers can review.

Chimney Sweep

How often should a chimney be swept?

Inspect once a year. Sweep when the inspection shows creosote buildup, which depends on how often you burn and what you burn.

My fireplace is gas. Does it still need service?

Yes. Gas fireplaces and their vents should be inspected yearly for blockages, damage and proper venting.

When is the best time?

Late summer and early fall, before the first cold front. Fall and winter book up fast.

Mold Remediation

Is mold in my AC dangerous?

Any mold in the system should be dealt with, and the moisture that feeds it fixed. We clean the coil, pan and drain line and check the ducts.

Can I just spray bleach on it?

EPA doesn’t recommend relying on bleach. Removing the growth and fixing the moisture is what keeps it from returning.
